![]() Topic: Venting hot air out of enclosed garagePosted: 19 Aug 2007 at 4:37pm |
|
Three years ago we had an electric garage door installed at our home.
The carport has a 10-1/2" ceiling, and the opening to the driveway is now 8' high. However, it used to be 8'7".
The stoop to the back door used to be 3" lower than the garage door opening -- meaning the hot air in the ceiling would roil to the outside.
Then, we had the door installed and the carpenters had to frame in the oversized opening at the top to do the door installtion.
The upshot is that the top of the entry door into the house is now 3 inches higher than the opening of the garage. So when I open the kitchen door, the hot air wants to roll right into the house. With this drought and heat we are having in Alabama, it is a real aggravation to deal with . My thought is that if I can get a draft going that takes the heat out of the garage at the ceiling (above the level of the entry door header) I will cure my hot air roiling into the house issue, and might even make the carport tolerable for working on my motocycle. What are my options for venting the garage?

Install a wall mount vent fan with shutters. You can turn on the fan as necessary and control the heat. Nice to see you again bonkerpro.

Don, thanks. You've pretty much confirmed what I was thinking.
The house has brick veneer, so I'm meditating on how to put a fan in.
Kind of nice to see the place start showing some life, you know?

Using a "Parker" saw or concrete cutting saw is the best bet. It provides a clean finish. It's great to see the site up again. Now if we could get rid of the soliciters and alert all the old loggers to get back in, it'd be like old times again!
